Exclusive Interview
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
All eight of us went to high school together in Burbank, CA and have been playing music since then. We played our first show together for a battle of the bands at The House of Blues in 2011. We were surprised to see how much people loved our music and to see how much fun we had performing, so we kind of decided to just continue from there.
What do you have coming up? What are some of the new projects we can expect to see?
Right now we’re working on our first full length album. It’ll feature a good 13 songs and some special bonus tracks. Keep an eye out!
Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
The song we’re promoting is called Fast It Breathes. It was the first song we ever wrote together as an 8 piece band and has really evolved and taken form since then. It seems to have become one of our favorites and a fan favorite as well. It’s definitely a song that’s dear to us.
How does your music separate yourself from other artists and bands out there?
Well, for starters we have a full horn section which you don’t see much of anymore. We’re also not a ska band, which surprises a lot of people (though we do love playing it). We just like to make sure we never hold ourselves down to one genre and that we’re always doing something different with each song.
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
It would probably be getting our music out there. It’s hard sometimes to let people know you exist in the vast world of musicians. It can be hard to market your band on a wide spectrum without any sort of professional label or manager.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
I think one of the biggest set backs for us was conflict within the band. It’s hard to fit 8 different people with 8 different personalities in one band and hope everything is going to be perfect. We’ve realized that finding a common ground for all of us to rest on, and being open to everything each of us lays on the table, is the best way to do things. A little band therapy was key!
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
I think all artists need to be genuine with whatever they do. No one likes an artist when they can tell they aren’t feeling they’re own music or they’re just in it for the money. We believe that real artists need to stay true to themselves and their fans to find success in what they do.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Always find something different that separates you from the crowd whether that’s your music, your act, or your style. The music industry is ever evolving and the last thing we need is a million of the same sounding indie bands out there.
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
We do the normal things through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc, but I think one thing we like to keep in our “promotion tactics” is humor. People always respond well to something that’s funny rather than very serious.
Where can people visit you?
As of right now, you can visit us at Facebook.com/atticempireband. On there you’ll find links to our YouTube, Twitter, Reverbnation, and Instagram pages. We’re in the process of building a website right now but we’ll keep you updated on those pages! Check us out, you won’t be disappointed!
