Listen to the new song from Chasing Norman – Out of My Mind
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
The band started in the classic “garage” sort of way in Carlsbad, CA. Last year we were very fortunate to connect with the amazing vocalist: Casey Hensley. The changes have been very positive and we are thankful to Thunderbird Analog recording studio in Oceanside for the introduction.
What do you have coming up? What are some of the new projects we can expect to see?
We have been writing a lot this year and are looking forward to sharing a select few of these new songs. We are currently in the studio and working on a (new) second CD that we hope to release by summer. We have gigs upcoming in California check our schedule out at: www.chasingnorman.com/Chasing-Norman-Gig-Dates.html.
Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
Out of My Mind captures our psychedelic-bluesy-classic rock style that weaves through our upcoming CD. The song is about sleepless nights contemplating with the struggles of life.
How does your music separate yourself from other artists and bands out there?
Our style strays from the current popular genres by refreshing old styles popular in the 60′s and 70′s like Black Sabbath and Cream into a unique sound that is rare to find in popular music today.
Where do you find your inspiration for the songs you write?
Our instruments speak through us a lot. We jam sometimes for an hour or more and the riffs often create themselves. We then do the construction work to put the pieces together to make the song work. Sometimes they evolve all at once, our lyrics are normally added from our journaling and we match our writing to the feels of the songs, in some cases we write lyrics just for the music we’ve created. Our music is heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Allman Brothers, Janis Joplin, and Primus, to name several.
What is one of the the most important things you have done as a musician?
Staying true to ourselves is a responsibility we take very seriously. Respecting each other and honoring our music are some of the most important things we have done as musicians.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
Getting a collection of committed band members has posed the greatest challenge. The current addition of Casey Hensley has brought the commitment to practice and performance that the band has needed. We are now getting done in a week what used to take a month.
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
Be careful who you bring into the band, you inherit, to some extent their friends and family. You want to keep focused on the music and not having to deal with broke promises and distractions.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Do it for the music. Play what you truly hear in your mind. If you do it for something else the rest of the band and fans will feel it. Connection with the music and each other is key.
Where can people visit you?
