Listen to the new song from Circle 7 – Cage
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
We are from San Diego, California and we’ve been playing together since about 2006. At that time we were playing under the name Six Reasons and we released our first album “Uninvited Life” in 2009. We played a lot of shows and were gaining local and regional radio play but still felt we could take our sound and style to another level. We took about a year to write new music and find someone to fill the lead vocal and front man roll, and we found Simon Alcantara in late 2010 and haven’t looked back.
What do you have coming up? What are some of the new projects we can expect to see?
We released our new record “In Between” on 6/15/12 and we are currently doing shows and press in support of the record.
Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
The first single we’ve released is a song called Cage. It is a very dynamic song musically and has it’s foundation built on a very flowing groove and powerful vocal melodies. Lyrically it is about being stuck in a particularly dark place in life and how that affects not only you but the ones around you that you care for.
How does your music separate yourself from other artists and bands out there?
I think the variety of songs and attention to melody on our record sets us apart from a lot of the music currently out there. We have fast songs, heavy mid tempo songs, an acoustic based song and throughout all of these stylistic differences, there remains a great emphasis on melodies, groove and dynamics that is not present in a lot of music we here these days.
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
Just being a small, relatively unknown band in a huge pool of very talented musicians. There is so much competition out there that sometimes it can be hard for your voice to be heard. But with hard work and a humble attitude we think positive things will happen.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
Our biggest challenge as a band so far was finding the right person to be our singer and front man. After deciding we wanted to move in that direction, it took about a year of auditioning people to finally find Simon. There were lots of ups an downs and points where we weren’t sure we would continue as a band at all. We were not only looking for someone who had the vocal abilities and personality to front the band, but also for someone who meshed personality wise and had the same vision for the band as the rest of us. Luckily everything worked out and things are now moving in a great positive direction.
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
As with any industry, there are those out there who’s goal is to take advantage of people for their own personal gain. Then there are also many people out there who truly want to help you along and see you succeed. Keep your eyes open and always know what what your goals as a band are first and foremost.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Be proactive with your band and your goals. Nothing will be handed to you in this industry, and your success will be a direct result of how much effort, passion and sacrifice you put in to making it happen. Also become aware of how the business end of the industry works. Of course, none of this matters without having great songs. Focus on your craft and make songs that will connect with people.
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
Social media is the biggest free tool available to all bands for promotion and connecting with your fans. It is an essential tool that you must take advantage of to have success in the music business.
