Exclusive Interview
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
We’re from the San Francisco Bay Area, so we come from one of the best punk scenes of all time. It began with Rico, Tristan, and Eric jamming in Eric’s shed, which he decked out to make a studio. When we got some material together, we started playing county fairs and small shows around the Bay Area. Once we got enough publicity and recorded a 4-track demo, we began playing bigger shows like at the DNA Lounge and a headlining show a major rock club in Oakland, CA.
What do you have coming up? What are some of the new projects we can expect to see?
We have a showcase for a Warner Bros Records representative at the Hard Rock Cafe in San Francisco on October 19th. We also have a big show at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco coming up on December 30th. We’re in process of putting together our debut full-length record, which we hope to let out in the next few months.
Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
The current song “When the Riots” was written about the riots in Oakland, CA after a police officer shot and killed an innocent kid. We’re promoting this song because it was the first song we ever wrote and played live so it is pretty important to us and we usually end our shows with it. Also, it’s a good representation of what we stand for by uniting to rise up against corruption and crooked authority.
How does your music separate yourself from other artists and bands out there?
There’s not too many punk bands around anymore and we’re a young punk band so we’re trying to bring back the San Francisco Bay Area punk scene.
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
A lot of the time when we try to reach out to companies or venues to try and book a gig or try to do a project, we’re not taken seriously because we’re so young and don’t have a ton of experience in the industry.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
After we recorded our demo, our bassist began skipping practices and eventually started ignoring our plans to play. It was hard, but we decided to leave him behind and recruit Shane, our new bassist, who rocks.
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
Artists need to make sure that they do not abandon their true selves or try to be someone they’re not because it’s what’s cool or popular. It’ll be miserable if they do.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
You’ll have a great experience if make music with your friends and promote yourselves and play as much as possible. You’ll get better and you’ll get more experience. Don’t worry about people who give you grief about what you do. If it makes you happy and you’re being true to yourself, you’ll have the most fun and you’ll truly express yourself.
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
Reverbnation and Facebook have helped us promote our music and our shows a lot.
