Listen to the new song from Withercrown – Rise Up
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
Our guitarist, Deakon Lekross, had Withercrown as his brainchild for about six or seven years as just a personal project with a few song ideas. Soon after, it was planned to be shelved so he could join other projects or play solo shows. In 2011, Enferno, the drummer, came along, followed by Lapin Noir in early 2012 and finally singer Pandora joined Withercrown in late 2012. As a group, we have proven to the world that with hard work and dedication Withercrown can be a massive force to be reckoned with! We have been moving forward together ever since.
What do you have coming up? What are some of the new projects we can expect to see?
We are planning the start of production on our first full length album, Masquerade of the Macabre, this summer! Keep an eye out for updates on the madness!
Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
We are actually trying to promote two songs. First being Rise Up, which we consider to be our anthem that hammers out powerful riffs and catchy vocals that span from angelic to grotesque. Secondly, Masquerade of the Macabre is the title track of our upcoming album which is presented as an acoustic waltz piece with chilling performances and memorable construction.
How does your music separate yourself from other artists and bands out there?
Our music stands out from the crowd with a strange sense of very diverse styles all composed into one sound. It’s powerful, hungry, and demands your attention. Our bombastic approach includes the hefty driving style of bass and drums to a pounding virtuoso guitarist topped off with a beautiful but bone chilling voice.
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
We have all faced personal and collective challenges from merely being in this scene, stemming from things as bad as slander to simple misunderstandings and miscommunications. There will always be hurdles just like there is always scheduling differences and cost of living that builds daily pressure. All of which can put stress and negativity on the band, so in a way one of the hardest challenges we have ever had was figuring out ways to put it all behind us when we assume the positions of Withercrown members and coming out on top no matter what.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
One of the biggest set backs we, and I am sure every band has, had was broadening our horizons in the sense that our location does not give us much to work with. Furthering our careers means stepping outside the box and out of our comfort zone and into the fray which can be taxing and difficult. The band works together as a brotherhood. No one person can do this alone.
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
Don’t lose sight of what was the original importance of starting your project. Don’t become so immersed in everything else that tries to rip you away and you forget why the music was dear to you in the first place. Always be true to yourself and your music. Don’t follow the trends of others.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Don’t be afraid of the music. Things can get overwhelming and it’s possible success can sometimes scare you. Just believe in yourself and do it because you love to do it.
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
We have found that we enjoy giving back to the music in any way we can, like charities, such as the Fender Music Foundation. We always jump on the chance to give back when the opportunity presents itself. We also try and use social media to its very best in many ways including appreciation of those who feel that Withercrown is something they can sponsor or help. We never forget who has helped us grow, especially our amazing fans.
